It’s absolutely CRAZY that 2022 is here! I think I’m still stuck in 2020, thanks for the never ending pandemic. The pandemic has made a lot of things very difficult, but I’m determined to make 2022 an awesome travel year.
I’ve created my annual travel plans and resolutions (I posted my 2020 goals here) and I wanted to share them with you guys! Obviously, Covid is still a thing and these plans may be adjusted or cancelled, but I’m going to try everything I can to make it possible.
Be sure to comment down below your plans for next year as I would love to hear all about them.
So, let’s get into my travel plans and resolutions for 2022!

Recap of 2021
This year, I didn’t do too well on the travel and blogging side of things. In all honesty, my mental health took a hit this year and my main goal was getting better.
However, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t tick some things off! I crossed many things off my bucket list while in Scotland:
- Drive the NC500
- Road trip
- Holiday with best friend
- Swimming in a lake (well … not sure if it was properly swimming)
- See a highland cow
- Go wild camping (check out my post here)
- See a wild dolphin

I think that’s pretty good don’t you? But that’s not all. I then went to Croatia where I:
- Took an underwater selfie
- Went diving
- Climbed up a church tower
And the last achievements I want to mention is:
- Stayed in a hostel for the first time (and made friends!)
- Completed A1 level in Dutch
- Started a YouTube channel
- Finished 2nd year uni with a 2:1 (like a B)
- Visited Scotland, Netherlands, Croatia, Germany (twice?!) and France
What have you done this year that you’re proud of? Let me know in the comments below!

Now for 2022 travel plans and resolutions. Let’s start with …
Countries!
In January, I’m going to be spending 3 months in Costa Rica!!!! Oh yes, there are 3 ‘!’ there because I am crazy excited. I’ve rearranged this trip so many times, and I’m amazed it’s finally happening.
I’m going to be collecting data for my dissertation project while I’m there, volunteering at Reserva Playa Tortuga. I’ll also be monitoring crocodiles, butterflies and monkeys. I can’t give details about my dissertation yet because things keep changing, but it will be about white-faced capuchin monkeys.

I also plan to spend 3 more months in South Africa!! I’ve been desperate to go back to South Africa since 2019 (I was meant to go last year) so this trip is long overdue.
I haven’t actually confirmed anything for my trip here. I’ve got a couple of ideas about which conservation charity I want to work with but nothing has been decided. I also know that I’ll be going on a family safari and will do a little bit of solo travel too.
So that’s 6 months of travel! Oh but that’s not all…

I also want to try and fit in Belgium and maybe Denmark, or one Scandinavian country. And then I have England and the Netherlands because I’ll be back at university in September.
Bucket List
No year is complete without crossing things off my bucket list (I wrote a post here but the list has gotten longer since writing that!). I am hoping to:
- Skydive!
- Swing in the jungle
- Zipline
- Horse ride along a beach
- Explore the rainforest
- Go whale watching (ethically, of course)
- Stay in a tree house
- Learn to speak Spanish
- Learn to surf
I’m always adding to my bucket list though so I’ll definitely cross off new things too.
What’s on your bucket list?!

Extra Resolutions
Unfortunately, my life isn’t just travel. I also have plans for my university degree and my blog.
My biggest goal for university is to have my dissertation planned, data collected and mostly written! A lot goes into the dissertation (I’ve been working on a question for months) so the most I can get done this year the better.
I also am starting a new, and very scary, chapter. I’m applying for veterinary school! My current degree is Animal Behaviour and Welfare, so it would mean having two bachelors, but this is something I really want to do. I didn’t take the conventional route after school, so getting into vet school is going to be tough and require lots and lots of work.
However, my blogging goals might interest you more!
There’s a lot of technical stuff that goes into blogging like SEO, algorithms, editing softwares and what not, so I have resolutions to work on those aspects of my blog. But, I also plan to:
- Build up my instagram presence (and I need your help to do that!)
- Post consistently every week (at least one blog post a week while I’m travelling, maybe more when I am back at uni)
- Make YouTube videos that you like to see. If you haven’t already, check out my channel!
- Bring in an income (you can help by using the affiliate links)

And those are my travel plans and resolutions for 2022!
