The Netherlands don’t celebrate Halloween as much as other countries, like USA, and actually, their main celebration is something called Sint Maarten. This takes place on the 11th November and children up until the age of 12 go trick or treating, which does mean that you should wait until then, and not trick or treat on All Hallows Eve.

However! That doesn’t mean that you can celebrate Halloween in Amsterdam with spooky activities and lots of parties.
If you’re visiting Amsterdam at other times of the year and want to check out what else you can do, then be sure to check out this post on Rotterdam Zoo and how I celebrated my 20th birthday here.
So let’s get into the 8 things you can do on Halloween in Amsterdam!
1. Chimera Fantasy Shop

This awesome shop is located on Damstraat 7, and you feel like you’ve been transported to a fantasy land as soon as you enter it! Unfortunately, you are no longer allowed to take photos inside so you’ll have to see why yourself. But, expect to find costumes, daggers, posters and figurines.
I think you could spend a least an hour in there wondering around and feeling like an assassin in your favourite fantasy novel.
Check out the website for it here!
2. Witches Weighing House

Known in Dutch as the Heksenwaag, this place certainly meets the criteria for a Halloween activity. During the times where witches were considered a threat, it was believed that they were ‘light as a feather’, and they would stand on trial by being weighed. That is where the weighing house originated from, but these scales were also used to weigh livestock and goods.
Now, it is a tourist attraction where you can stand on the scales yourself and receive a certificate saying that you aren’t a witch!
You can book your slot for this museum here.
3. Ripley’s Believe It or Not

This museum is filled with the weird, wonderful and crazy! This is the perfect place to go if you loved reading Guinness World Records or are fascinated with unusual science and nature.
You can check out their website here!
4. Jacob Hooy apothecary

This shop opened in 1743 and sold herbs and spices, but now this is expanded and they sell things like incense and cosmetics. As you can see from the picture above, it has managed to maintain the same style of shop that was opened in the 18th Century and its a wonderful place to go and browse.
You can check out the website for it here.
5. Amsterdam dungeon

The Amsterdam Dungeon is a scary tourist attraction with an awesome history side. They have four shows which are historically accurate and also spooky!
Book your tickets for it here!
6. Ghost hunting tour

This spooky late night walk lasts 1.5 hours and you get to see a whole different side to Amsterdam. As you explore Amsterdam during the dark, you’re also told stories of ghosts and paranormal activity.
Be sure to book your tour here! If you want to do this on Halloween, or close to it, then book it as early as you can because it’s a very popular tour.
7. Polaberry

To complete the perfect Halloween aesthetic, you need to go to Polaberry and buy some of their delicious Halloween style treats!
Although, they also do Christmas style treats and lots and lots of unicorns!
Check out their collection here.
8. Fright Night Skate

Friday Night Skate is a weekly activity, but on Halloween they make is spookier! It’s a 20 mile skate through Amsterdam starting in Vondelpark, and it lasts about 2 hours. The best thing? It’s free!
Read all about it here.
So that’s it for the activities you can do on Halloween in Amsterdam!
